Automation V3: Silent Installation on Windows.

This article explains how to install and uninstall Provar Automation on Windows silently. Use it when you wanto install silently or deploy Provar to many machines through a software distribution tool such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).

Provar Automation installs for all users on the machine. Each user’s license, settings and default Workspace are created in their own profile the first time they launch Provar.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that:

 • The target machine runs 64-bit Windows. See System Requirements for supported versions.
 • You run the installer and uninstaller as an administrator.
 • The installation path is shorter than 100 characters.
 • You have the Windows installer, Provar_setup_v<version>_win_64.exe, downloaded from the Provar Success Portal.

Silent Install

Run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

Provar_setup_v<version>_win_64.exe /S /D=C:\Program Files\Provar

Follow these rules for the switches:

 • /S runs the installer silently. It must be uppercase.
 • /D= sets the installation directory. It is optional. If you use it, it must be the last switch on the line and the path must not be in quotes, even if it contains spaces.

If you leave out /D=, Provar installs to C:\Program Files\Provar.

Silent Uninstall

Close Provar on the machine first. The uninstaller stops if provar.exe is running.

Run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

"C:\Program Files\Provar\Uninstall.exe" /S

Deploy with a Software Distribution Tool

Provar installs machine-wide and does not need a user profile, so you can deploy it under the SYSTEM account with a tool such as MECM. Use the following commands in your tool’s install, uninstall and detection settings.

Install command:

Provar_setup_v<version>_win_64.exe /S

Uninstall command: The uninstaller returns before it finishes. Use these two lines so your tool waits for the uninstall to complete before it checks the result:

start /wait "" "%ProgramFiles%\Provar\Uninstall.exe" /S _?=%ProgramFiles%\Provar
rmdir /s /q "%ProgramFiles%\Provar"

Note: Licenses are stored per user, so the installer does not activate a license. Each user activates their own license after the first launch. See Activating Your License.
